Peter Kohler, Vice President of Editorial Services at Cablevision Systems Corp., is responsible for writing and presenting editorials on Long Island, and also for supervising editorial services in Connecticut. Cablevision editorials are scheduled on News12 networks on Long Island and Connecticut, expressing the opinions of the management of Cablevision.
Prior to joining Cablevision in 1995, Kohler worked in varied journalistic and executive capacities for many years in broadcast television. He served as editorial director at WCBS-TV in New York, and in print, where he began writing editorials at The Charlotte (NC) Observer. Kohler was also Manship Chair Professor at the Manship School of Mass Communications at Louisiana State University. He joined the faculty there after serving as Vice President of the Gannett Broadcasting Group. During his 19 years at CBS, he also served as a Vice President at the CBS Television Network and Broadcast Group.
Kohler currently serves as Treasurer of the NCEW Foundation of the National Conference of Editorial Writers.
Most recently, his editorials at Cablevision have taken top honors in the 2002 and 2003 FOLIO Awards, given by the Long Island Coalition for Fair Broadcasting, for best public affairs reporting and best feature story. In 2001, Cablevision Editorials won first place in the public affairs reporting category of the annual Press Club of Long Island awards. Kohler's editorial work has also been awarded the Bronze Medallion for best television editorial by Sigma Delta Chi (1998), and awarded as best editorial or television commentary by the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters in 1996 and 1997. While at WCBS-TV, his editorials were recognized with an Emmy Award from the NY Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
A graduate of Yale University, and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, Kohler resides in Huntington with his wife, Margot, and son, Cameron.
